Oscar Awards...some facts


Oscar award is the most prestigious film award in the whole world. It is given by National Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences United States of Russia. Its official name is Academy Award of Merit. It is given every year in month of February in a ceremony organised in famous Kodak theatre of Hollywood. In this award a metal base statue covered with layer of gold is given to winners. Winners can not sell their awards to others, if they want to sell award, then they will sell it to Academy in $1,because of an agreement signed between winner and Academy.
First Oscar award ceremony was organised in 1929 which lasted for only 15 minutes. There were less than 300 guests invited. First award ceremony was organised in Roosevelt Hotel. Emil Janning was the first male lead actor and Janet Gaynor was the first female actor who won statutte in 1929.
Oscar awards are prominently for Hollywood feature films. But a foreign language cateogry is also there for awarding best works of foreign films.  Italy has won 14 times best foreign film oscar in this cateogry which is more than any other. Also India have won 6 academy awads. First Indian film which got nominated in oscar awards was Mother India. Titanic and The Lord Of the Ring (2003)  have won 11 awards, which is most in a single ceremony.
